To be fair, I'm one of the developers, but I've been working on this game for 3.5 years and I still love playing it.
30 January 2013
So why the he'll did I have to search for it, Microsoft? Obviously money was spent making it and obviously it is a higher quality than 99% of the crap on here. So why isn't it featured on the front of Marketplace when I open it. Tired of all the apps that are an experiment by some 9 year old Indian kid learning to program.
30 January 2013
finally an great game that can make other people on other platforms jealous. Good job 17bit been waiting for this game for years. Cross Platform between Windows Phone, box 360, Windows 8 and Surface you can't beat it.
2 February 2013
I bought this for my Xbox and my Surface. It is fantastically fun. I'll pull out the surface to play a couple turns when I am free and then sit down on my couch for a couple hours to play several battles. I want more friends to buy this game so that I can challenge them!
1 February 2013
Very fun game! But what I don't really understand is why do I have to pay for the same game across three platforms three times? so a $5 game on my phone becomes a $25 game across all my devices :(
3 February 2013
There are plenty of strategy games out there. But this game really stood out to me, gorgeous visuals, perfect soundtrack & gameplay that anyone could get the hang of. Don't forget about the xbox live achievements and multiplayer. Now I completely understand that $10 is a lot to ask for a game. But if you want quality developers to make quality games. Than your gonna have to pay a little extra, but to be honest I don't regret spending a dime. Well done Microsoft, well done.
18 December 2013
This is an amazing game. There is enough to keep you coming back. The campaign is great and the multiplayer offers a lot. Developers need to learn something from these guys!!!!
6 June 2013
Amazing gameplay, awesome graphics and extraordinary sounds and music! This game gets my 5 stars, without a doubt! The last level is pretty hard though... Not that I'm complaining or anything. Overall great game. Keep up the good work!

I have been eager to play SOTS since it's release, but had a huge backlog to work through. As a deep fan of the "tactical RPG" genre, any games that come out with these mechanics I inevitably buy. Some I enjoy more than others, but they all get played.
SOTS was an absolute blast to play. For the first time in a long time I found myself "addicted" to gameplay. I thoroughly enjoyed playing through the campaign, and figuring out strategies to net myself all of the achievements.
This is easily the best game that I've played on Windows 8 thus far, and it is one of my favorite games in recent memory.
Why not rate it 5 stars? I loved the game so much that I want to buy it again on XBLA. However, there are apparently issues unlocking achievements on a second platform after finishing it fully on a different platform. As a "completionist", this bugs me greatly and I don't want to risk it being impossible to finish. I'm also sad that we have a lower Gamerscore total on W8 and miss the DLC.
2 February 2013
... of the Microsoft Studios and 17-bit people that brought this to life. This is how gaming in the next generation Xbox ecosystem should be like. Perfection in gameplay, fantastic artwork, excellent writing.
Give us more.
7 February 2013
Entertaining dialogue, great sound/music, fluid gameplay and plenty of need for strategic thinking that works well on a tablet/Surface. Win8/RT needs more titles like this. Only oddity ... why isn't this title, on launch day, being properly promoted by the store. Needing to search or get links from Major Nelson isn't going to help titles get needed exposure.
5 February 2014
This is a game that should be used to sell the Surface tablets. It is a great tactical game that has some good humor and action in it. Lots of fun and I highly recommend it!
30 March 2013
With a cool art design and an innovative take on the turn-based strategy genre, Skulls is a fun and unique experience. There is enough depth to the battle-system to keep advanced gamers intrigued, but casual gamers can easily adjust the settings and still fully enjoy it as well.
The best parts are the ability to play the game via asynchronous multiplayer against players on other systems (e.g., Windows Phone), or to continue your own offline campaign on a different system. Played on Surface RT.
31 January 2013
Both Win8 and WP games are fantastic... this is the future of Xbox Mobile.
30 January 2013
I've been following this title for literally years at this point and it turned out better than I had hoped. Turn based strategy with a ton of arcade-y elements and even some RPG stuff. Colorful, expressive graphics and a great style that simply radiates personality. I've now purchased on Windows Phone 8 AND Windows 8, and I'll likely buy on XBLA if I can't score a free code! Excellent work to the devs and to everyone else: at least try it, but I hope you end up hitting 'Buy.'
1 May 2013
This game is really great. The music is terrific, the story is quirky and funny, the graphics are nice, and gameplay is tons of fun. It is well worth the ten dollars because there are a lot of challenges and so the number of gameplay hours is extensive. Buy the game and have some fun!
3 February 2013
The game is great but c-mon 10 bucks is a bit steep, especially buying it for every platform and comparing for all free games for android.
Could be a must have on all devices is price was around $4.
31 January 2013
This may be the first MUST BUY game for Windows 8. The asynchronous single and multiplayer across W8/WP8/XBLA is spot on and should be supported with your money. The gameplay is unique and if you are on the fence download the free trial.
I personally love starting a battle on my phone, then finishing it up at home. We are living in the future.
30 January 2013
This game is over the top amazing, and set the standards for what Windows 8 games should be. Amazing graphics and great game play alone make this game a winner. It's the cross platform capabilities that make this game so special and unique. I have already purchased this for both my computer and phone, and plan of getting a copy for my Xbox 360.
14 February 2013
If you're a fan of strategy games this one is a no brainer. It's great that it saves across all platforms as well. I like being able to play on my Surface, PC and Lumia and not miss a beat. It's annoying having to buy it twice for both my phone and Windows 8, but I'm willing to pay a premium for top notch quality titles like this.
3 February 2013
Windows and WP have had very few exclusives, but the ones they have had have been good. This is the real game changer for Windows, a first class exclusive that really shines across the ecosystem.
30 January 2013
This is an incredible game. Fun single mode and also compete against other players. OMG
2 February 2013
A great game that shows off the Microsoft eco system! Love it! Now if you can fix the "buy it once, get it on all platforms" experience, even Chuck Norris will play it!
1 February 2013
This is what I want in a Windows 8/RT, Windows Phone, Xbox Hybrid! Plays great on every device. Love it on my Surface.
Now we just need more like it!!!
1 February 2013
Having a great time with this game so far on my SurfaceRT! I highly recommend it on any platform.
3 May 2013
I really enjoyed the work the developers put into the campaign. It's a lot of fun and the first boss in particular is challenging. Skulls Anywhere mode is a lot of fun now that the out of sync and disconnect bugs have been fixed. :)
19 March 2013
Fun, humorous, and easy to get into. Love that this is available on both Surface and Windows Phone so I can pick up where I left off no matter where I am. Awesome job.
27 February 2013
I purchased this game for both my Windows Phone and Win 8 PC. The game crashes on both platforms on the same level "Murderous Moats." I've contacted the tech support at support@skullsoftheshogun.com and have yet to get a reply. I'll be contacting Microsoft directly if I get no reply from the game makers.
Without this problem, I would give it a 5 star review.
2 February 2013
Seriously fun and addicting. Even casual players will pick this up after a while. It is the first game to have cross platform gaming between Xbox/windows phone/windows 8. Definitely worth the money. Only draw back is the multiplayer could be faster.
1 February 2013
This is the true Xbox Live game I've been wanting for Windows 8. True cross-platform gameplay at its best. Great colorful graphics, fun gameplay, and surprising depth. Totally worth the money and plays great on my Surface tablet.
