Comments for Microsoft Minesweeper

I love Minesweeper, I always have, and it is by far one of my favorite Windows games. Leave it to Microsoft to destroy a wonderful game by flooding you with ads, and a monthly fee to get rid of them...really!? Once again the greedy corporate parasites destroy the game by filling it with ads!

A few months ago, I would have rated this app a 5. I found the challenge system compelling and really enjoyed completing expert games. However, I'm about to give up on it. The commercials have really taken over the game. I find I have to watch a 30 second commercial to play a 2 minute game. It's just not worth it. I don't mind advertisements and have even used to coupons available in the home screen ads. I just hate sitting through TV commercials for a quick game.

Really? You're going to throw ad's into this game? I'm not upgrading to "Premium". I'm downgrading to Windows 7, This game has ALWAYS been free. You're trying to milk a dead cow Microsoft.

The game is fine, but they keep telling me to update and there is no update. The size of the download seems too big for the game.

If it weren't for the fact that you either keep the ads or pay for it, the game would be so much more fun. Instead, if you accidentally hit outside the box (which my mouse just so happens to do), you get stuck going to the advertisement and losing time.

A modern approach to an old game, really well done microsoft

First let me say I really like this game. In this newest version 2.4.1408.2503, the surface pro 3 pen suddenly stopped working. The pointer is shown on the screen but does nothing to the tiles when pressed. In the last version the pen worked wonderfully similar to a mouse. It is power hungry. When the game is running and the game board is displayed, it causes the CPU to consume about 3.5 Watts of extra power causing the CPU temperature to hover at 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The game should have a warning “NOT FOR USE WITH BATTERY OPERATED DEVICES!” Interestingly, power consumption varies by the size of the window, it draws less (2 Watts) when the screen is tiny about a ¼ of the screen. Power consumption should be negligible for a passive game like this. I still play the game, but only when plugged into a wall outlet.

A very nice evolution of the classic Minesweeper game. If only they didn't tempt you with an update that doesn't exist.

On my Asus tf810c, I can no longer use my wacom pen. My other gripe is I can no longer tap a flag to deselect it. However, introduction of the Diamond Award is great. Update: Zoom doesn't work on Adventure Mode

Update 3/10/14: Failed when restarting app/game. This is an awful lot of bugs...oddly enough, worked on an 8.1 laptop; still fails on Surface Pro. Update 3/11/14: Uninstall/reinstall on Surface Pro fixed. Then restart and/or today's Windows Updates caused it to fail again. Frustrating. Please fix. Update later 3/11/14: Uninstall/reinstalled worked again. Please store tutorial status with game/Xbox Live store so I don't have to endure the tutorial every time I reinstall. Worked as long as I didn't close the app in the middle of a level--closing after completion of a level worked OK, but not if I closed while playing a level. Crashes on startup in when loading an Adventure saved game. Uninstall/reinstalled fixed crash, but now Bonus Chest won't do anything--press heart or dynamite button and button presses, but nothing happens.

I have played many versions of Minesweep throughout the years but I don't recall having and adventure option- which is a lot of fun! Also the daily challenges are cool- I wish there were more. Overall I like Microsoft Minesweeper and I will continue to play and recommend it to others. I'm also inspired to try Microsoft version of Mahjong and the Jigsaw Puzzle game. I saw them on an Ad as I waited for my extra hearts ♥. I hate to admit it but, the ads paid off this time.... ok, I'm off to play my daily challenge, good luck and have fun!

I typically love this game, but the stylus stopped working with the last update. I play on my Surface, so the boxes are too small to touch and the zoom in view isn't the best.

Was a fun game, until you attached all the advertising crap!

Seriously? I have to watch a thirty second commercial to play the game? That is ridiculous, avoid this advertisement ridden moneygrab like the plague

Stylus quit working on the puzzles. Drives me insane.

Sombody decided that if you want to play the challenge boards, you have to watch a 40+ second ad first. The ad cannot be skipped, nor can you go back to the previous screen (or do anything else) until the ad is done. Thankfully this is only the challenge modes, so I can still quickly play a regular game when the mood strikes me. Otherwise I'd be uninstalling this thing.

With achievements galore, a redesign, addictive gameplay with many modes, this is a new look on an old classic! Great job, Microsoft! :)

This is minesweeper with a clean, smooth UI. Lots of fun and replayability with the daily challenges. Love it

I have two monitors and while I would like to be able to skip the ads I can't so instead I would do something on the other monitor and let the ad play out. Too bad that doesn't work it essentially keeps you hostage to watch the entire ad moving over to another window pauses the ad.

Not had a single game without it crashing!! *Update. Do you actually even test your software? Minesweeper takes a while to load up for some reason then crashes as soon as I start a game?

what happened to truly free games with the OS? time = $ so making me watch an ad to play minesweeper is not really free... i'd rather pay $1 to disable ads

Minesweep has been part of windows for pushing two decades... paid for Windows... but now I have to put up with adds to play it? Way to go Google MS.... way to go Google. At least Google OS is free. Hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE adds.

Fun and addicting! I like the different challenges that make it better than the original.

When Windows 8 first came out this game was terrible. It froze all the time. The Xbox Live integration was spotty at best. But after a few updates everything seems to be working smoothly. If you like minesweeper you'll love this version. If you're not familiar with minesweeper, but are looking for an easy game to pick up and play for a few minutes then you must give this game a shot.

0. An update that doesn't resolve any issues, but offer me to pay a monthly fee for ad free. I'll pay once. Downvoting to make a point 1. There was no reason to remove the original minesweeper from win 8. 2. This thing makes my surface pro hot and loud... its minesweeper, not 3d or anything. 3. Sharing options are stupid. No people hub / Facebook sharing, but I can post about it on my skydrive... Daily challenges are fun though! That being said, da

I gotta connect to the internet and Xbox just to play MineSweeper!!!??? Why? Another example of why Windows 8 is crap!

When playing the daily challenges, the game always ends up freezing the computer within the first few challenges - usually right after completing the challenge. The computer freezes so badly that I cannot even use the task manager to end the task. I hard reboot is always required. Needs fixed immediately!

This game is visually engaging, and I like the different game modes and the daily challenges. Why though does it lag and jitter so much? I'm running it on a brand new MS Surface. I figured this of all games would run as smooth as butter. The reality is much different. Frequent crashes, stuttering graphics, and a UI that is laggy. Gameplay is good, but the overall experience is disappointing. 1/13/2013 update: Changed from two to one star after it deleted all my progress. Uninstalling.
