I like the way the Nook App displays my imported ePub files from jw.org. However, in the past I found that the highlighting feature was poor when using a Microsoft Surface Pro. Today the App was updated and that problem has been fixed. Now, I can highlight multiple words and then change the highlighting color. Before you could only highlight one word at a time, and that was very frustrating. The only feature I see missing, and that I would really like, is to have the files sync between my devices. Right now, if I import an ePub into Nook on my Microsoft Surface, it does not show up in Nook on any other computer. I sure would like to be able to read, highlight and annotate on one computer and have it appear the same on the other computer.

This app it's pretty nice I enjoy it things are clearly labelled whether they are samples or not when you click on the book. The thing with barnes and noble is you do need to enter your credit card info upon sign up in case you should buy a book that actually has a value to it. You can just type in search 0.00 and get a whole bunch of free books. If you don't like this one go to the B&N website and get the original Nook for PC program; it works super really. It has it's quirks but it seems fine.

Been reading on my Surface and really like this app however it is missing many of the basic features that the actual Nook has that I really miss. The two biggest short-comings that I have found are that when you close the app, the book you are reading does not remember your location automatically. *This appears to be fixed with the last update! Now the big missing feature is the lack of access to the dictionary. When reading on an actual Nook you can highlight a word and select a definition.

This app got even better! It's faster, I can highlight and annotate, and sideload files!

Looks much nicer now! My imported books show up with their covers so now I can tell at a glance which one I want -- a great improvement over the previous version that had only the file name. The highlighting is little slow when changing highlight color, but I'm glad that it can be done. More highlight colors would be a great addition. Dictionary works nicely too. Good work! Now, make Nook available for Windows phones!

This newest update is amazing! I was never one to complain. Before this update, all my imported .epub files never showed the book cover and the whole file name would act as the title of the said file underneath the book thumbnail. But now, all my imported files (as long as the cover was the first page) have the book cover as the thumbnail and just the title of the book underneath! Best update to date! Keep up the good work!

PLEASE add highlight and note feature! Very essential to remember parts of the book when discussing in my book club!!

Haven't found any issues since the last update. Everything seems to be working correctly. Wouldn't mind seeing if there was a way that the notes that I left could be written with my stylus on my surface pro.

Does any one from Barns and Noble read these. The reason I asks is why do I have to be on line to read my books I thought by installing nook on my surface I would be able to read my books when I travel how ever can't do that . Just installed KOBO I am able to read the book on my surface when I am off line , still cannot read any books on NOOK when off line any chance someone at Barns & Noble answering these reviews. Does Barns&Noble even care about the people that try to use this app no matter what any tells you at Barns & Noble you cannot use this app when you are off line IE as in flying totally useless.

This app is much better than Amazon Kindle app. It gives you the experience of reading paper books. The only issue is that it is not available in Windows Phone Store. Please develop and publish the same app for Windows Phone user if you want to keep your customers loyal. Otherwise they may switch to other readers like "Kobo" and "Kindle" which are available in both Windows and Windows Phone Stores.

Kudos!! Finally Microsoft Account is integrated and Nook is moving closer to Microsoft Ecosystem! Great job! Now start adding Bing Services like Translate and Dictionary with Word Definitions, release a Windows Phone App (these three needs to come ASAP) and with the help of Microsoft's Global present, focus on International content. Keep up the good work.

I hate this app! I download books and they disappear and the only way I can access the on the app again is if I uninstall and re-download the app. It seemed to work fine when I first got it but now it's just horrible!

I recently downloaded the Nook for Windows 8 app. I thought it would be a good idea because I have the Nook for iPad app and a Nook Simple Touch. But, it is awful. *It is unclear what content is free and which must be paid for. I will be checking my credit card account to see if I was charged. (The app requires a credit card for free content.) *So far, I have found no way to move out of the publication that opened first. There is no 'library' button. I'm stuck. Frustrating.

I'm glad to see highlighting issue is fixed when using the Surface Pro. It's giving error message when opening an imported epub that it is corrupt, but was working before. Hopefully the file just needs deleted and the file downloaded back again and hopefully not a new issue with the lasted update.

Your books cost nearly 2x as much as they do on Kindle, and in Kindle I can highlight things and take notes. If you cut prices and add a simple highlight/note feature, I'll likely convert, since your interface is much nicer on the eyes than Kindles...

I wanted to try this out, but I didn't want to give it access to my entire contacts list. After all its a book reader, why the hell does it need to know about my contacts!!?

- Lost ability to highlight text - Lost ability to add notes - Lost dictionary support - Lost Wikipedia lookup support - Lose all previous markups from non win/8 readers Before I realized I could download the Nook for P/C on my new tablet I almost jumped ship to Kindle. I was so dissatisfied with your apparent lack of respect for your client base. I recommend you pull this app until you fully bake the product.

I guess free means something else to Barnes and Nobel. I wonder if they're familiar with that new invention called the dictionary where a person can look up the definition of words...

It says free book but once you download the app you learn that they are only sample books not the full book.

ok, so it's not back on black really but that's the way it looks on my device. It opens ok, when I open a book it goes to the page I was last on and hangs, the bottom shows a white box with the page # but just a black screen, no book, no way out, swiping does not change the page #s, I'm guessing it's hung. If I change the resolution downward it works, but that's not an answer. My Acer iconia W700 with it's 11.6" screen at 1980x1080 is a show stopper. This sort of makes you want to switch to Ki

Ask for a credit card. I know you need one to by stuff, but if you offer something for free, why do you need one.

It's nice to be able to read all my content from my nook on my computer now. I love windows 8 and the magazines loo incredible on these screens!

I used iBooks to highlight and annotate my many DRM-free ebooks. And I used the Nook PC application to do it on my desktop. I now have a They now allow side-loading and annotating and highlighting epubs! Only thing they need now is a cloud sync service for DRM-Free epubs so that i can sync and read them on different devices. Old review below...3 stars Windows Tablet and wanted to use the Nook app as a iBooks replacement...to rid myself completely of Apple, but not yet. I can read my side-loaded ePubs, but can't highlight or annotate them yet. I'm sure these features will be added soon.

They have finally fixed the major issue with disappearing library items. Now I can use it again! Thank you! Still has some work to do, but much more usable now.

Great app. Seamless integration between android and windows devices. Well done.

I haven't had it crash on me yet, which is a vast improvement over the last time I used the app a few months ago. Portrait reading view is nice. Landscape view got stuck in an unpleasant single page mode that I can't seem to shake, though, so I'm still only giving it three stars.

This app is very cleanly designed and easy to use. I have all my Magazines and Books synced perfectly to my Windows 8 PCs. I love the fact that you can shop directly from the app and instantly have a new book to read. Magazine trials are another great feature and look beautiful with this app. I highly recommend downloading it! Great job.

I installed it because of free books ad, and cannot find those free books. Mostly crap.

Update fixed nothing. Downgrading rating! B&N I expect much better from you. After having no WindowsPhone app for so long, you finally appear with an app that is average, normal, underwhelming. I'm a FAN of B&N, but you keep pushing me into the arms of Kindle. Need to be able to notate, look up, highlight - fully use the touch piece of Windows 8! I should be able to use my stylus on a page handwriting style! The user interface is horrid. I guess, I need to start lowering my expectations of B&N!
